Fitness Assistants*

Position Description
The Fitness Assistant is a part-time, 3-10 hour per week, staff member at MICA Fitness. This position is responsible for assisting with the daily operational needs and services of the fitness center. This position reports directly to the Fitness Center Manager with guidance from the Wellness Coordinators. Position is based on the academic year; employment start and end dates will coincide with the beginning of Fall and end of Spring. Summer positions available.

Qualifications
  • Currently enrolled at MICA as a student
  • Maintain good disciplinary and academic standing with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.00
  • Agree to participate in all training sessions, including CPR/AED and First Aid Certification
  • Demonstrated interest in fitness and recreational activities
  • Demonstrated customer service/communication abilities
  • Knowledge related to Healthy & Wellness
  • A strong desire to work with other students

Responsibilities
  • Acts as a first responder if and when an injury/incident occurs in MICA Fitness
  • Walks the facility every 15 minutes to survey for injured members, hazards, and litter
  • Greets all individuals entering the facility with a positive attitude, checking for membership eligibility
  • Answers all incoming phone calls and provides information or takes a message as needed
  • Communicates with and teaches members about use of all exercise equipment
  • Cleans and maintains fitness equipment and facility as outlined in cleaning check list
  • Inputs member data into security software and files paperwork accordingly
  • Supports and enforces all MICA Fitness policies and procedures
  • Participates in all staff training and social activities
  • Attends all scheduled shifts or other related events; following shift coverage procedures if necessary
  • Reviews all informative documents [digital or print] provided
  • Signs up for and staffs at least one program a semester
  • Assists with rental equipment check out/in process
  • Demonstrates exemplary customer service skills; wears staff shirt and name tag
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Time Commitment
The Fitness Assistant will be expected to work 4-10 hours per week, depending on their availability, work study award, and scheduling needs

Compensation
Compensation will be $9.10 per hour [If work study: $8.25 work study + $0.85 MICA Fitness]

Wellness Coordinator*

Position Description
The Wellness Coordinator is a part-time staff member at MICA Fitness. The student will represent the student voice, by serving as a conduit between the Wellness Center and the MICA community. This position is also required to work one (1) fitness center front desk shift a week where the student will assist with the day-to-day management of the Fitness Center. The Wellness Coordinator position is based on the academic year; employment start and end dates will coincide with the first day of the Fall semester and the last day of the Spring semester.

Eligibility
  • Must be enrolled currently as a student at MICA
  • Good disciplinary and academic standing with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.00
  • Agree to participate in all training sessions, including CPR/AED and First Aid Certification
  • Demonstrated leadership ability
  • Demonstrated interest in fitness and recreational activities
  • A strong desire to work with and lead other students
  • Prior experience as a fitness center employee, preferred
  • Must not be involved in more than 10 hours per week of outside activities, including athletics, clubs, organizations, or additional employment, on or off campus, while classes are in session unless approved by the Health Promotions Educator
 
Responsibilities
  • Develop Health Promotion Inititatives
  • Works up to 8 hours per week managing area of responsibility, programming, and communicating with constituents
  • Work 3-4 hours per week at the front desk as a Fitness Assistant
  • Manage assigned area of responsibility
  • Attends weekly coordinator meetings with Health Promotions Educator and reports on area of responsibility
  • Plan and execute at least one (1) Wellness program per semester
  • Acts as a liaison between departments on campus and the Wellness Center
  • Staffs programs and events put on by Wellness Center
  • Assists in training of the Fitness Assistants
  • Performs other duties as assigned

The Wellness Coordinator will be expected to work 6-12 hours per week, depending on their availability, work study award, and scheduling needs

Compensation
Compensation will be $10.25 per hour [If work study: $9.25 work study + $1.00 MICA Fitness]
